American Red Cross

Duty Officer aka Dispatcher (Virtual Opportunity)

So you want to provide support for your neighbors who have been affected by a home fire or other event but responding on-scene isn’t your cup of tea?

The Duty Officer is the Ring Master of our disaster response efforts, acting as the coordinator for each aspect of a response. They are the direct point of contact for all response requests that come to our Region and the first voice those looking for our help speak with, be they our partners from one of the hundreds of fire departments within our region or the client displaced as a result of a disaster event. The Duty Officer also works to put together a team of responders to travel to the event scene and deliver the Mission of the Red Cross, addressing the unmet needs of those affected.

In addition, the Duty Officer serves as a communications lifeline for the responders, supporting them as they deliver our mission. The Duty Officer is also the documenter and historian for each response, tracking our response effort through detailed yet concise notes. And they can do it all from the comfort of their own couch.
