Program Grants


Each of the partners below receive funding from United Way for one or more programs that advance United Way's mission of building better lives and stronger communities in the investment areas of Education, Health, and Financial Independence. Agencies go through a stringent evaluation process to ensure the funded programs meet standards for effectiveness and efficiency.


Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Region : One-to-One Mentoring
Children ages 7 to 17 from single-parent families matched with adult volunteers on a one-to-one basis for guidance and friendship.
Boy Scouts of America - Chester County Council : Scoutreach
Character building, citizenship training, personal development program for boys 6-18 years of age.  Career exploration opportunities for high school age young people.
Cerebral Palsy Association of Chester County, Inc. : Early Intervention
Serves clients with physical disabilities, cerebral palsy or similar needs. Programs include Early Intervention, Adult Services, Counseling, and Adaptive Computer Assistance.
Charles A. Melton Arts and Education Center : New Directions
Contributes to the quality of life for all people of the greater West Chester community by continuing its long commitment of providing educational, recreational, cultural and civic services.

Chester County Intermediate Unit : UNIFY
Provides services, including special education, technical and customized education, staff development and technology initiatives to the twelve school districts in Chester County

Chester County Women’s Services : Family Movement Program
A Pregnancy Care Medical Center that exists to educate and empower individuals and their families to make life-affirming choices.
Coatesville Youth Initiative : Coatesville Youth Initiative
An independent non-profit organization committed to training youth leaders, enhancing family relationships, building community collaboration, and encouraging prevention education.

Oscar Lasko YMCA and Childcare Center : Child Care Financial Assistance and Believe & Achieve
Enhances the quality of life of the children of the greater West Chester area and helps deter juvenile delinquency through sports, educational and recreational activities.

Phoenixville Area Children's Learning Center : Phoenixville Area Children’s Learning Center
Quality child care program for ages 13 months through 6 for children of working parents or parents who are in an educational or employment training program.
The ARC of Chester County : Education Advocacy and Children’s Early Learning Services
Advocacy and family support, early intervention, recreation, and employment training and placement to persons with mental retardation and developmental disabilities.
West Chester Area Day Care Center : West Chester Area Day Care Center
Provides a loving, nurturing and stimulating environment for children from 6 weeks through a full-day kindergarten.
Youth Mentoring Partnership : Friend Fitness
Committed to helping kids develop grit to overcome formidable challenges to be successful today and in the future. Our mentoring programs help youth master goal setting skills, build mental toughness, and forge character through intense physical fitness and sports.

Affilia Home Health : Home Health Services
Provides skilled nursing care and other therapeutic services to the homebound.

Brandywine Health Foundation : Youth Mental Health First Aid
Improves the health and well-being of people who live and work in the greater Coatesville area by fostering community partnerships, by providing capacity building support, and by making grants to promote health equity, healthy youth, and a healthy community.

Serves clients with physical disabilities, cerebral palsy or similar needs. Programs include Early Intervention, Adult Services, Counseling, and Adaptive Computer Assistance.
Chespenn Health Services : Comprehensive Dental Care & Comprehensive Medical Care, Coatesville
Primary care and dental services to the uninsured and underinsured, particularly children, in Western Chester County.
Chester County Health Department - Nurse Family Partnership : Nurse Family Partnership
Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) provides home visits to young, first-time mothers and their children with a focus on assessment, education, and support.  
Chester County Hospital : OB/GYN Clinic
Chester County Hospital, part of Penn Medicine, is dedicated to the health and well-being of people in Chester County and surrounding areas. With a goal of making lives better every day, the hospital includes a 245-bed complex in West Chester and has satellite locations throughout the county.

Child Guidance Resource Center : Outpatient/Psychiatry
Dedicated to providing quality care and educational services that assess, treat, and empower children, adolescents, and families in the Delaware Valley.
Coatesville Area Senior Center : Achieving Health and Wellness for Older Adults
Programs and services for older adults including meals, counseling, educational and recreational opportunities.

Community Volunteers in Medicine (CVIM) : Dental Services
Developed to understand and to serve the primary health care needs of the unisured and the underinsured population in Chester County.

Downingtown Area Senior Center : Active Older Adults Program
Provides hot lunches Monday-Friday and offers health and educational programs, information/referral services and volunteer opportunities.
Family Service of Chester County : Counseling Program
Professional counseling to families and individuals, family life education, Exchange Club family center, counseling and case management for people living with AIDS/HIV and their families.
Neighborhood Health Agencies, Inc. : Senior HealthLink
Provides quality home care services including intravenous, obstetric, pediatric, ventilator, hydration, enterostomal, physical, speech and occupational therapies; also social work and psychiatric nursing.
Phoenixville Area Senior Center : Nutrition Program
PASC exists to serve, support and enhance the lives of all senior citizens, 60 years of age and older, by providing opportunities in the way of programs and activities designed to promote independence and active, healthy lifestyles.
Planned Parenthood of Southeastern PA : West Chester Health Center
Provides high-quality reproductive health care and sexuality education to women, men, and adolescents, regardless of income or insurance barriers.

Surrey Services for Seniors : Meals on Wheels
Helps older adults to live with independence and dignity and to continue as active members of our community.
VNA of Pottstown & Vicinity : Home Health Care Services
Provides community and in-home comprehensive professional and supportive health care at preventative, restorative and rehabilitative levels.

West Chester Area Senior Center : Daily Meals and Supplemental Food Program
Promotes the interest of senior citizens by providing services and programs to support the independent well being of senior citizens.

American Red Cross/SEPA Chapter : Emergency Services and Volunteers in Action
Provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.

Chester County Opportunities Industrialization Center (OIC) : Workforce Development and Workforce Reintegration
Recruitment, motivation, training and self sufficiency programs for unemployed, underemployed and unskilled in Chester County.

Clarifi : Financial Counseling and Financial Boot Camp
Positively impacts human lives and communities through comprehensive consumer credit education, counseling, asset building and debt reduction programs, without regard to economic status.

Crime Victims' Center of Chester County, Inc. : Direct Services
Victim advocate program providing 24-hour crisis line and response, medical, police and legal accompaniment, individual and group counseling as well as prevention and education programs and professional training.
The Domestic Violence Center of Chester County : Housing and Legal Center, Adult Counseling
Comprehensive services for victims of domestic violence including emergency and transitional safe housing, advocacy, 24 hour crisis hotline, children services and community education.

Family Service of Chester County : ConnectPoints
Professional counseling to families and individuals, family life education, Exchange Club family center, counseling and case management for people living with AIDS/HIV and their families.

Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children : Emergency Family Shelter and Homeless Prevention Program
Holistic helping of needy children by providing specialized foster care, emergency family shelter and bridge housing. Licensed facility for adoption services.

Good Samaritan Shelter : Good Samaritan Shelter
Operates a 4-bed Emergency Shelter and a 7-bed Transitional Housing program for single, homeless men. Meals, case management and counseling provided.

Home of the Sparrow : Transitional Housing Program
Provides transitional housing to homeless women and children.

Housing Authority of Chester County : Housing Locator
Strives to provide quality housing to all eligible persons, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or disability; and to increase the availability of affordable housing within Chester County.

Human Services, Inc. : Rapid Re-Housing
Comprehensive community mental health center providing outpatient mental health services to the residents of Chester County.

Legal Aid of Southeastern PA - Chester County Division : Legal Services for Financial Independence
Assists Chester County indigents with civil law problems, i.e. domestic disputes, public benefits, housing problems and consumer (including bankruptcy) matters.

Life Transforming Ministries : VITA Program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance)

North Star of Chester County : Homeless Prevention and Financial Independence
Provides financial assistance, social and educational support services, and mentoring support for families comprised of working, needy single parents and their dependent children.  The program enables the families to obtain and remain in clean, safe, affordable housing while they work toward independence and self sufficiency.

Open Hearth : FIRM and FSP
Provides innovative programs to help people end the cycle of homelessness and achieve financial self-sufficiency.

Phoenixville Area Community Services (PACS) : Emergency Services
Provides free, confidential information and referral; administers a community-donated emergency food supply and fund; and sponsors community information and coordination activities.

Safe Harbor of Greater West Chester : Emergency Shelter
Provides food, shelter, friendship and rehabilitation opportunities for the homeless and needy.

The Salvation Army, West Chester Corps : Social Service Program
Alleviates crises through food, clothing, rent assistance and housing. Emphasizes prevention and education, helping clients to learn skills in problem solving and self-reliance.

The Salvation Army, Service Extension : Service Unit
Provides families and individuals facing a financial crisis with emergency short-term financial assistance, personal support and sincere compassion.

Volunteer English Program in Chester County : Volunteer English Program
Recruits, trains and matches volunteers to teach English on a one-to-one basis to immigrants and refugees in Chester County.
