UW AND CTDI INSTALL BORN LEARNING TRAIL AT EAST GOSHEN PARK - 7TH IN CHESTER COUNTY!
East Goshen, PA – As part of their year-round volunteer activities, volunteers from Communications Test Design, Inc. (CTDI) has installed the 7th Born Learning Trail in Chester County at East Goshen Township Park. Coordinated by United Way of Chester County, the group gathered on Friday, October 7, 2011, to lead the installation with support from the Friends of East Goshen and assistance from East Goshen Township Public Works.
The trail is open now and will be publicly recognized during the Harvest Festival at East Goshen Township Park on October 22, 2011.
The Born Learning Trail is part of the United Way of Chester County’s Early Childhood Education Initiative and is designed to assist parents and caregivers in engaging their young children in quality early learning activities. This new addition to East Goshen Township Park is a series of signs and stenciled prompts adults can use to better prepare children for success in kindergarten, a good start in school and a lifelong love of learning.
Based on the latest early childhood research and approved by national early learning experts through United Way of America, the Born Learning Trail is intended to help adults interact with children to improve language and literacy development and to help caregivers support early learning in an outdoor setting, while keeping the entire family active.
United Way research has found that many parents undervalue their role in preparing young children for school, not knowing exactly what to do to prepare young children for school or how to have time to do what’s needed.
“The Born Learning Trail promotes fun and games - important components of early childhood learning,” said Claudia Hellebush, President and CEO of United Way of Chester County. “Research tells us children are literally ‘born learning.’ That means five years of education take place before they ever enter kindergarten. We know that what happens in a child’s early years matters-for school readiness and for success in life. We want to help parents, grandparents and caregivers use everyday outings - including trips to East Goshen Park - to support that learning.”
United Way of Chester County Board Member Bob Esty is also involved with Friends of East Goshen. He says, “As a result of my involvement with Friends of East Goshen, I approached the Parsons family with the idea of installing the Born Learning Trail in East Goshen Park. Without hesitation, CTDI was quick to jump on the idea and provide not only the funding for the project but the labor force as part of Days of Caring project. Needless to say, CTDI is an important part of the East Goshen and Chester County business communities as well as a tireless supporter of the United Way. We could not have done it without them.”
The Friends of East Goshen Township provides support for the preservation and improvement of township parks, recreation facilities, open space, historical structures and activities that improve the quality of life for township residents and the community at large.
