UWCC ANNOUNCES 2009-2010 CAMPAIGN GOAL OF $6 MILLION

United Way of Chester County launched its 2009 fundraising campaign in a new office location at 211 North Walnut Street, in West Chester, on September 17, 2009. Sponsored by Arthur Hall Insurance/Tom and Jackie Van Grofski and Carlino’s Market of West Chester, the free, open house event hosted volunteers and employees from hundreds of Chester County businesses, agencies and other organizations who currently support United Way or are interested in getting involved.

This year Jerry Sheridan, VP Finance and CFO at AmeriGas, takes the reigns as 2009-2010 Campaign Chair. Announcing this year’s campaign goal Sheridan adds, “My hope is that come Spring I will be able to announce that we not only reached our goal of $6 million but exceeded it during the 2009 campaign. With support from our business partners, agency partners and community leaders, we can embrace United Way’s movement to give, advocate, and volunteer and in doing so inspire others to support our mission. I couldn’t be more proud to add that almost 90 cents of every dollar we raise goes toward critical services.”

United Way Board Chairman Steve Shihadeh, VP Microsoft Health Solutions Group, talked about the future at United Way and the new home of the organization. “The move to this great building was intended to create a place our partners can gather in to engage in the work of United Way, as well as create a greater presence for the organization and draw people into the mission of United Way. Last year was a challenge but with your help we landed on our feet raising over 5.7 million dollars for services in Chester County. This year, we know the challenges will continue but we are optimistic and ready to go.”

Claudia Hellebush, President and CEO of United Way of Chester County, continues “United Way of Chester County has made efforts to cut costs wherever possible to be able to transfer more funding to our Community Impact Fund. We’ve significantly decreased occupancy expenses and are able to focus our resources to doing our work in the community. Our kickoff and open house mark the moment when we hit the ground running.”

The 2008-2009 Campaign raised $5,740,000 in pledged contributions, thanks in part to our highly involved business partners. Currently, United Way of Chester County funds 88 programs through 54 agencies in support of our community impact strategies that focus on the building blocks of a good life for all – education, income, health and basics. Our results-oriented approach has demonstrated the impact United Way of Chester County has in the community and has attracted and retained donors looking for an effective and trustworthy organization.
