September 10, 2008 – West Chester, PA – United Way of Chester County launched its 2008 fundraising campaign with a luncheon at The Inn at Chester Springs on Wednesday, September 10, 2008. Attendees included volunteers and employees from hundreds of Chester County businesses, agencies and other organizations who currently support United Way or are interested in getting involved.

Dr. Don Morel, Jr., Chairman and CEO of West Pharmaceutical Services, Inc., provided the keynote address, reinforcing the importance of United Way’s work in improving communities and stressing his and his company’s history of dedication to United Way. Additional comments were provided by PA State Senator Andy Dinniman, Chester County Commissioner Kathi Cozzone, Chester County District Attorney Joe Carroll, and PA State Representative Barbara McIlvaine-Smith, all of whom gave examples of what it means for them to Live United and encouraging others to join United Way in its mission to advance the common good.

Brian Smith, COO of AEGON Direct Marketing Services and the 2008 Campaign Co-Chair, announced this year’s campaign goals. Smith explains, “We understand that during this time of uncertainty in our economy the need increases while resources are decreasing. To maintain our level of support for the need in the community, we are proposing an aggressive campaign goal of $6.6 Million, and ask everyone to help us help others.”

Claudia Hellebush, President and CEO of United Way of Chester County, concludes “In times of distress, we have seen Chester County residents pull together and exceed expectations for good citizenship. Whether it be after September 11 or following Hurricane Katrina or in our current economic environment, we anticipate seeing the best in Chester County philanthropy shine through.”
