UWCC WELCOMES 760 VANGUARD VOLUNTEERS FOR DAY OF CARING Volunteerism is an important component of United Way’s work. Last year, United Way utilized 2,316 volunteers to meet annual goals for fundraising, community impact and service projects. Volunteers contributed nearly 35,000 hours, preserving $677,430 in our community for service delivery to clients. Since its inception 12 years ago, Days of Caring alone has provided millions of dollars worth of service through volunteerism in Chester County. During the 2007 Days of Caring week, 630 volunteers completed nearly 90 projects at non-profit organizations throughout Coatesville, West Chester, Phoenixville and more. The Vanguard project is also a reflection of the partnership of regional United Ways. United Way is part of the United Ways of the Delaware Valley, a collaborative of 13 local United Ways who often work together to improve their unique communities. In addition to the numerous projects in Chester County, many more Vanguard volunteers will spend time at agencies in Philadelphia, and Montgomery and Delaware counties. Mary Anne Feeley, Manager of Community Initiatives at United Way of Chester County, explains “Vanguard is just one example of the tremendous corporate support we have in Chester County. Unfortunately we have also seen a tremendous increase in varying needs. This means that corporate and individual volunteers, and the resources saved through their great work, are even more valuable to us as we strive to make a difference in people’s lives.” To get involved in United Way’s Days of Caring, or for more information, contact Mary Anne Feeley at 610-429-9400. # # # United Way of Chester County, a leader in identifying needs and bringing solutions to community problems through partnerships, allocates funding to its member agencies that provide programs and services for individuals and families in need.
